Installation Procedure

2003 Chevrolet TrailBlazer 4.2 S, 4WDSECTION Installation Procedure

  1. Install the power steering pump reservoir to the power steering pump. Refer to Power Steering Reservoir Replacement - Off Vehicle (Cb Series)  .
  2. Install the power steering pump pulley to the power steering pump. Refer to Power Steering Pulley Replacement (3.8L)  or Power Steering Pulley Replacement (3.1L)  .
  3. Position the power steering pump to the engine.
    NOTE: Refer to FASTENER NOTICE .
  4. Install the power steering pump mounting bolts.

    Tighten 

    1. Tighten the mounting bolts to 34 N.m (25 lb ft).

  5. Install the power steering pressure hose to the power steering pump. Refer to Power Steering Pressure Hose Replacement (3.1L)  or Power Steering Pressure Hose Replacement (3.8L)  .
  6. Install the power steering return hose to the power steering pump. Refer to Power Steering Return Hose Replacement (3.1L)  or Power Steering Return Hose Replacement (3.8L)  .
  7. Install the ignition control wiring harness to the power steering pump.
  8. Install the accessory drive belt to the power steering pump pulley. Refer to DRIVE BELT REPLACEMENT .
  9. Install the coolant recovery reservoir. Refer to COOLANT RECOVERY RESERVOIR REPLACEMENT .
  10. Fill the power steering system with power steering fluid. Refer to Checking And Adding Power Steering Fluid  .
  11. Bleed the power steering system. Refer to Bleeding The Power Steering System  .
  12. Inspect the power steering system for leaks. Refer to Power Steering Fluid Leaks  .
  13. Remove the drain pan from under the vehicle.
