2002 Chevrolet Impala LSSECTION Installation (3.8L)
  1. Position generator to engine.
  2. Install positive battery lead to generator.
  3. Install generator output BAT terminal nut. Tighten generator output BAT terminal nut to 20 N.m (15 lb ft).
  4. Install protective boot to generator output BAT terminal.
  5. Connect electrical connector to generator.
  6. NOTE: Do not tighten stud.
  7. Install generator stud (2) to generator bracket. See Figure .
  8. NOTE: Do not tighten bolts
  9. Install generator bolts (1, 3) to generator bracket.
  10. Tighten generator bolts and stud in order described. The following is a mandatory torque sequence:
    • Tighten generator bolt (1) to 50 N.m (37 lb ft).
    • Tighten generator stud (2) to 50 N.m (37 lb ft).
    • Tighten generator rear bracket bolt (3) to 50 N.m (37 lb ft).
  11. Install generator rear brace.
  12. Install drive belt.
  13. Connect negative battery negative cable.
