2002 Chevrolet Impala LSSECTION Test C: Horn Inoperative In Content Theft Deterrent Alarm Mode
- Perform anti-theft system diagnostic system check. See ANTI-THEFT SYSTEM DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. If anti-theft system diagnostic system check has been performed, go to next step.
- Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Using scan tool, command horn relay ON. If horn sounds, check for intermittent problem. See DIAGNOSING INTERMITTENTS . Repair or replace as necessary and go to step 8 . If horn does not sound, go to next step.
- Check steering wheel horn button operation. If horn sounds, go to next step. If horn does not sound, see STEERING COLUMN SWITCHES - IMPALA & MONTE CARLO article.
- Disconnect Body Control Module (BCM) Pink, 24-pin connector C1. Connect a fused jumper wire between BCM Pink 24-pin harness connector C1 terminal B5 (Black wire) and ground. See Fig 1 . If horn sounds, go to step 6 . If horn does not sound, go to next step.
- Check for open or short to power in Black wire between BCM Pink 24-pin connector C1 terminal B5 and HORN RELAY fuse (15-amp), located in top underhood fuse block. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . Repair as necessary, and go to step 8 . If wire is okay, check for intermittent problem. See DIAGNOSING INTERMITTENTS . Repair or replace as necessary and go to step 8 .
- Check for poor connection at BCM connectors. Repair as necessary and go to step 8 . If connection is okay, go to next step.
- Replace and program BCM. See BODY CONTROL MODULES - IMPALA & MONTE CARLO article. After repair, go to next step.
- Operate system to verify repair. If system operates normally, repair is complete. If system does not operate normally, return to step 3 .
