Electronic Column Lock Module - Disassemble - Off Vehicle (Tilt Column)

2002 Chevrolet Chevy Express G3500, Van Passenger Extended, 8.1 GSECTION Electronic Column Lock Module - Disassemble - Off Vehicle (Tilt Column)
WARNING: This vehicle is equipped with a Supplemental Inflatable Restraint (SIR) System. Failure to follow the correct procedure could cause the following conditions:
  • Air bag deployment
  • Personal injury
  • Unnecessary SIR system repairs
In order to avoid the above conditions, observe the following guidelines:
  • Refer to SIR Component Views in order to determine if you are performing service on or near the SIR components or the SIR wiring.
  • If you are performing service on or near the SIR components or the SIR wiring, disable the SIR system. Refer to DISABLING SYSTEM .
  1. Disable the inflatable restraint steering wheel module. Refer to DISABLING SYSTEM .
  2. Remove the ignition lock cylinder. Refer to Ignition Lock Cylinder Replacement - On VehicleΒ .
  3. Remove the steering column tilt head components. Refer to Steering Column Tilt Head Housing - Disassemble - Off VehicleΒ .
  4. Remove the ignition and key alarm switch assembly only. Refer to Ignition And Key Alarm Switch Assembly - Disassemble - Off VehicleΒ .
  5. Remove the park lock cable assembly (1) from the electronic lock module assembly.
    1. Place the lock cylinder in the OFF-LOCK position.
    2. Place the shift lever into the PARK position.
    3. Insert a small screwdriver into the slot on the electronic lock module assembly. Push against the locking tab on the end of the park lock cable assembly (1).
    4. Disconnect the park lock cable assembly (1) from the electronic lock module assembly.

  6. Rotate the key alarm connector (1) 90 degrees. See Fig 2.
  7. Pull the key alarm connector (1) out of the electronic lock module assembly (2).
  8. Remove the 2 tapping screws from the ignition and key alarm switch assembly (3).
  9. Remove the ignition and key alarm switch assembly (3) from the electronic lock module assembly (2).
  10. Let the ignition and key alarm switch assembly (3) hang freely.

  11. Remove the 3 pan head tapping screws (2) from the electronic lock module assembly (1). See Fig 3.
  12. Remove the electronic lock module assembly (1) from the steering column tilt head assembly.
