Test C: Cannot Enter Body Control Module Diagnostics: Testing
2002 Chevrolet Camaro SS, 2D Coupe, StandardSECTION Testing
- Attempt to enter Body Control Module (BCM) diagnostic mode. See RETRIEVING BODY CONTROL MODULE DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. If BCM enters diagnostic mode, go to next step. If BCM does not enter diagnostic mode, inspect circuits for intermittents. Perform TEST D: TESTING FOR ELECTRICAL INTERMITTENTS .
- Turn ignition switch to RUN position and observe SECURITY indicator. If SECURITY indicator illuminates during prove out, go to next step. If SECURITY indicator does not illuminate during prove out, go to step 7.
- Operate power windows, if equipped. If not equipped with power windows or if power windows operate, go to next step. If power windows operate, go to next step. If power windows do not operate, repair power windows as necessary. See appropriate POWER WINDOWS article.
- Operate radio. If radio does not operate, go to next step. If radio operates, go to step 10.
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect BCM 6-pin harness connector C2 and BCM 32-pin harness connector C3. BCM is located behind right side of instrument panel, near blower motor. See Figure. Inspect Orange wire for an open or short to ground between ground and BCM harness connector C2 terminal "B". Inspect Red wire for an open or short to ground between ground and BCM harness connector C2 terminal "F". See Figure. Inspect Brown wire for an open or short to ground between ground and BCM harness connector C2 terminal "D". Inspect Yellow wire for an open or short to ground between ground and BCM harness connector C3 terminal D6. If an open or short to ground is not found at all terminals, go to next step. If an open or short to ground is found at any terminal, repair as necessary then go to step 13.
- Inspect Black wire for an open or short to ground between BCM harness connector C2 terminal "A" and BCM harness connector C3 terminal C1 If an open or short to ground is not found, go to step 11. If an open or short to ground is found, repair as necessary then go to step 13.
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) 34-pin harness connector. IPC is located behind instrument cluster. See Figure. Inspect Orange wire for an open or short to ground between ground and IPC harness connector terminal A10. See Figure. If an open or short to ground is not found, go to next step. If an open or short to ground is found, repair as necessary then go to step 13.
- Inspect Gray wire for an open or high resistance between ground and IPC harness connector terminal B3. If an open or high resistance is not found, go to next step. If an open or high resistance is found, repair as necessary then go to step 13.
- Inspect security indicator control circuit for an open or high resistance. If open is not found, go to next step. If open is found, repair as necessary and go to step 13.
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect BCM 32-pin harness connector C3. BCM is located behind right side of instrument panel, near blower motor. See Figure. Inspect radio and BCM harness connector C3 terminal No. D6 (Yellow wire) for short to voltage. See Figure. If short to voltage is not found, go to next step. If short to voltage is found, repair as necessary then go to step 13.
- Disconnect all BCM harness connectors. Inspect for corroded or pushed out pins. Connect all BCM harness connectors. Operate system and verify if concern still exists. If concern still exists, go to next step. If concern does not exist, go to step 12. Concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector.
- Replace BCM. Program BCM. See BODY CONTROL MODULE under PROGRAMMING. After replacement, go to next step.
- Connect all harness connectors. Perform BCM self-diagnostics. See RETRIEVING BODY CONTROL MODULE DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. If BCM self-diagnostics cannot be entered, go to step 2.
