Idle Learn Procedure (5.7L)
2002 Chevrolet Camaro SS, 2D Coupe, StandardSECTION Idle Learn Procedure (5.7L)
- Idle learn procedure must be performed to provide proper positioning of Idle Air Control (IAC) valve to obtain proper engine idle. If idle learn procedure is not performed, engine idle may become unstable. Procedure must be performed if any of the following have been done:
- Vehicle battery was disconnected.
- PCM was disconnected or PCM looses battery voltage. On automatic transmissions, go to next step. On manual transmissions, go to step 4.
- On automatic transmissions, ensure ignition switch is in OFF position. Restore battery voltage to PCM. Ensure A/C is turned off. Apply parking brake. Block rear wheels. Start engine. Place transmission in Drive. Allow engine to idle for 5 minutes. Place transmission in Park.
- Allow engine to idle for 5 minutes. Shut engine off for 30 seconds. Clear Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTC) from PCM. Perform powertrain diagnostic system check. See POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK under BODY CONTROL SYSTEM DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK. Ensure engine is idling for one minute before checking for DTCs when performing powertrain diagnostic system check.
- On manual transmissions, ensure ignition switch is in OFF position. Restore battery voltage to PCM. Ensure A/C is turned off. Apply parking brake. Block rear wheels. Place transmission in Neutral. Start engine. Allow engine to idle for 5 minutes.
- Shut engine off for 30 seconds. Clear DTCs from PCM. Perform powertrain diagnostic system check. See POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK under BODY CONTROL SYSTEM DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK.
