2002 Chevrolet Avalanche 2500, RWDSECTION Test A: Keyless Entry System Inoperative

  1. Check operation of keyless entry system. See OPERATION  . Go to next step.
  2. Press each button on transmitter. If keyless entry system does not operate correctly, go to next step. If keyless entry system operates correctly, check for intermittent problem. Check all applicable component connections. See COMPONENT LOCATIONS  and WIRING DIAGRAMS  .
  3. Lock and unlock door locks using controls inside vehicle. If system operates correctly, go to next step. If system does not operate correctly, see appropriate POWER DOOR LOCKS article.
  4. Test transmitter operation. See TRANSMITTER TEST  under COMPONENT TESTS. If tone sounds and Green light illuminates on keyless entry tester when each button is pressed, go to step  9 . If transmitter does not operate as specified, go to next step.
  5. If none of the buttons on transmitter cause tester tone to sound and Green light to illuminate on keyless entry tester, go to next step. If at least one button on transmitter causes tester tone to sound and Green light to illuminate on keyless entry tester, go to step  8 .
  6. Replace transmitter battery. Go to next step.
  7. Test transmitter operation. See TRANSMITTER TEST  under COMPONENT TESTS. If tone sounds and Green light illuminates on keyless entry tester when each button is pressed, go to step  9 . If transmitter does not operate as specified, go to next step.
  8. Replace transmitter, then go to step  11 .
  9. Perform resynchronization procedure. See TRANSMITTER RESYNCHRONIZATION  under PROGRAMMING. If door locks cycle, go to next step. If door locks do not cycle, go to step  11 .
  10. Press each button on transmitter. If keyless entry system does operate correctly, go to next step. If keyless entry system operates correctly, go to step  15 .
  11. Program all transmitters. See TRANSMITTER PROGRAMMING  under PROGRAMMING. If door locks cycle, go to step  15 . If door locks do not cycle, go to next step.
  12. Turn ignition off. Disconnect RCDLR connector. RCDLR is attached to cowl above engine cover. Check battery voltage circuits at terminals "E" and "F" on RCDLR connector for open or short to ground. See Figure . See WIRING DIAGRAMS  . Repair as necessary. After repair, go to step  15 . If both circuits are okay, go to next step.
  13. Check continuity of ground circuit at terminal "N" on RCDLR connector. If continuity exists, go to next step. If continuity does not exist, repair open circuit. After repair, go to step  15 .
  14. Replace RCDLR. Program all transmitters. See TRANSMITTER PROGRAMMING  under PROGRAMMING. Go to next step.
  15. Press each button on transmitter. If keyless entry system does not operate correctly, go to step  2 . If keyless entry system operates correctly, repair is complete.
