Removal Procedure

2001 Chevrolet S10 Pickup 2D Pickup, 2.2 5, AutomaticSECTION Removal Procedure

  1. Drain the engine coolant. Refer to Draining and Filling Cooling System in Engine Cooling.
  2. Remove the heater outlet hose from the heater core. Refer to Heater Hose Replacement - Outlet (L61)Β  or Heater Hose Replacement - Outlet (L81)Β .
  3. Remove the heater inlet hose from the heater core. Refer to Heater Hose Replacement - Inlet (L61)Β  or Heater Hose Replacement - Inlet (L81)Β .
  4. Remove the instrument panel retainer. Refer to Instrument Panel (I/P) Retainer Replacement in Instrument Panel, Gages, and Console.
  5. Remove the shift control bracket. Refer to Transmission Shift Control Bracket Replacement in Manual Transmission - Getrag 5, Transmission Shift Control Bracket Replacement in Automatic Transaxle - AF33-5.

  7. Remove the heater duct screws.
  8. Remove the heater duct.

  10. Remove the heater core cover screws.
  11. Remove the heater core cover.

  13. Remove the heater core pipe cover screw.
  14. Remove the heater core pipe cover.
  15. Remove the heater core pipe foam seal.

  17. Grasp the heater core at end tanks and remove heater core. Spray the perimeter of the heater core seal and the heater core pipes at the front of dash with a soap and water mixture to ease removal.
