Test N: Charge Indicator Always On

2001 Chevrolet Chevy Express G3500, Van Passenger Extended, 6.5 FSECTION Test N: Charge Indicator Always On
  1. If engine electrical system diagnostic system check has been performed, go to next step. If engine electrical system diagnostic system check has not been performed, go to ENGINE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECKΒ  under SELF DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
  2. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Observe CHARGE indicator on Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC). If CHARGE indicator illuminates, go to next step. If CHARGE indicator does not illuminate, check for intermittent or poor connections. Repair as necessary.
  3. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect generator connector. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. If CHARGE indicator remains illuminated, go to next step. If CHARGE indicator does not remain illuminated, go to step Β 5 .
  4. Check for short to ground in Brown wire (CHARGE indicator control circuit) between Powertrain Control Module (PCM) harness connector C2 terminal No. 35 and IPC harness connector terminal B16. See Figure and Figure . If Brown wire is okay, go to step Β 6 . If Brown wire is not okay, repair as necessary. After repair, go to step Β 7 .
  5. Replace generator. After repair, go to step Β 7 .
  6. Replace PCM. Program as necessary. See PROGRAMMINGΒ  . After repair, go to next step.
  7. Operate system to verify fault no longer exists. If fault still exists, go to step Β 3 .
