2001 Chevrolet Chevy Express G2500, Van Passenger Extended, 5.0 MSECTION Removal Procedure

  1. Raise the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .
  2. IMPORTANT:

    Use the J 24319-BΒ  in order to separate all the tie rods and ball joints.

  3. Remove the nut (2) from the outer tie rod ball stud (3).

  5. Use the J 24319-BΒ  in order to remove the outer tie rod ball stud from the steering knuckle.
  6. IMPORTANT:

    Do not reuse the nut.

  7. Remove the tie rod end from the shaft by loosening the jam nut .
  8. Remove the outer tie rod end from the relay rod.

  10. Inspect the shaft (6) for bent or damaged threads.
  11. Clean the tapered surface of the steering knuckle (1).
