Shift Cable: Removal

2001 Chevrolet Chevy Express G2500, Van Passenger Extended, 5.0 MSECTION Removal

  1. Set the park brake and chock the wheels. Fully lift the retainer from the shift cable mechanism. See Fig 1 .
  2. Disconnect the shift cable terminal from the transaxle manual shift lever pin. See Fig 2 . Press the locking tabs inward in order to release the shift cable from the bracket.
  3. Remove the left console trim panel. See appropriate SHIFT INTERLOCK SYSTEMS article in AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSIONS. Remove the console trim plate. Remove the shift cable from the shift lever pin. Pull the lock release and remove the transaxle range selector cable (1) from the console. See Fig 3 .
  4. Remove the cable from the vehicle. See Fig 4 . Remove the shift cable through the hole in the cowl.
