2001 Chevrolet Chevy Express G2500, Van Passenger Extended, 5.0 MSECTION Removal Procedure

Important:Β  The left, front seat is equipped with a side impact air bag. This air bag must be disabled before any work is done on the seat.

  1. Disable the SIR system if the seat is equipped with air bag. Refer to DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM .
  2. Remove the head restraint. Refer to Head Restraint Replacement - Front SeatΒ .
  3. Position the seat full up and all the way back.
  4. Disconnect the connector for the heated seat back, if equipped.
  5. Position the seat full forward and the seat back full up.
  6. Remove the seat belt nut to the seat stud. Refer to the following procedures in Seat Belts:
  7. Unfasten the J-hook retainers at the bottom of the seat back cover.

  8. Position the seat back full down.
  9. Reach inside of the front seat back cover and unfasten the hook and the loop retainers securing the front seat back cover to the pad.
  10. Position the seat back to the vertical position.
  11. Remove the front seat head restraint retainers. Refer to Head Restraint Retainer Replacement - Front SeatΒ .
  12. Unfasten the seat back cover from the retainer at the side impact airbag using a small curved bladed tool first to gain access to the front seat back material.

  13. Unfasten the seat back cover from the retainer at the side impact airbag, by pressing in and pulling down on the seat back cover.
  14. Remove the rear screw from the seat trim panel. Refer to Trim Panel Replacement - Front SeatΒ .
  15. Pull out the front seat back cover end flaps, 3 flaps on each side.

  16. Pull the electrical harness for the seat back heater up through the seat cushion.
  17. Remove the front seat back cover from the seat back, by pulling the seat back cover up and over the pad.
