Removal & Installation (Except Diesel)

2001 Chevrolet Chevy Express G2500, Van Passenger Extended, 5.0 MSECTION Removal & Installation (Except Diesel)

Service of the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) should normally consist of either replacement of the PCM or electrically erasable programmable read only memory (EEPROM) programming. If diagnostic procedures call for PCM to be replaced, PCM should be inspected first to see if the correct part is being used. If the correct part is being used, remove faulty PCM and install new service PCM.

Ensure ignition switch is in OFF position. Remove air cleaner assembly. Disconnect PCM harness connectors. Release spring latch from PCM. Lift PCM from mounting tray. See Fig 1 . Remove PCM from engine compartment. To install, reverse removal procedure. Tighten PCM connector end fasteners to 71 INCH lbs. (8 N.m). Program as necessary. See PROGRAMMINGΒ  .
