Removal Procedure

2001 Chevrolet Chevy Express G2500, Van Cargo Extended, 5.7 R, L31/KL8SECTION Removal Procedure

  1. Turn the steering wheel in order to move the front of the right wheel to the outboard most position in order to allow clearance to remove the power steering pump.
  2. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  3. Remove the front right wheel. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
  4. Remove the accessory drive belt from the power steering pump pulley. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement in Engine Mechanical - 3.6L (LY7).
  5. Remove the right engine splash shield. Refer to Splash Shield Replacement - Engine in Body Front End.
  6. Disconnect the intermediate steering shaft from the steering gear. Refer to Intermediate Steering Shaft Replacement in Steering Wheel and Column.

  8. Use a utility stand in order to support the frame.
  9. Remove the rear frame bolts. Refer to Frame Replacement - Front (W/AWD) or Frame Replacement - Front (W/FWD) in Frame and Underbody.
  10. IMPORTANT: Do not lower the rear of the frame too far as damage to the engine components nearest to the cowl may result.
  11. Use a utility stand in order to lower the frame and the powertrain.
  12. Disconnect the power steering pump inlet hose from the power steering pump.
  13. Disconnect the power steering pressure pipe/hose from the power steering pump.

  15. Remove the power steering pump mounting bolts.
  16. Remove the power steering pump from the vehicle.
  17. Cap off the power steering pump and hoses in order to prevent contamination.
  18. Remove the power steering pulley from the power steering pump. Refer to Power Steering Pulley Replacement (LA1)Β  or Power Steering Pulley Replacement (LY7)Β .
