2001 Chevrolet Chevy Express G2500, Van Cargo Extended, 5.7 R, L31/KL8SECTION Removal Procedure

  1. Disable the SIR system. Refer to DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM .
  2. Remove the steering column trim covers. Refer to STEERING COLUMN TRIM COVERS REPLACEMENTΒ  .
  3. Disconnect the electrical connectors from the multifunction switch.
  4. Remove the wiring harness (1) from the steering column harness strap (2).
  5. Disconnect the multifunction switch electrical connectors from the steering column wiring harness.

  6. Remove the multifunction switch retaining screws (1).
  7. Remove the multifunction switch (2) from the steering column.
  8. Remove the SIR coil from the steering column shaft. Refer to SENSING & DIAGNOSTIC MODULE (SDM) .
