DTC B2948: PASSLOCK(tm) SENSOR POWER CIRCUIT HIGH: Testing

2001 Chevrolet Chevy Express G2500, Van Cargo Extended, 5.7 R, L31/KL8SECTION Testing
  1. If theft deterrent diagnostic system check has been performed, go to next step. If theft deterrent diagnostic system check has not been performed, go to THEFT DETERRENT DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECKΒ  .
  2. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC), located below steering column. See Figure . Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Select DISPLAY DTCs function for Passlock(tm) module. If scan tool displays DTC B2847 as a current DTC, go to next step. If scan tool does not display DTC B2948 as a current DTC, go to DIAGNOSTIC AIDSΒ  .
  3. NOTE: The use of DVOM J-39200, or equivalent, is crucial in this step because voltage may be interrupted for 10 milliseconds only.
  4. Disconnect the Passlock(tm) sensor 3-pin harness connector at base of steering column. Connect DVOM between ground and Passlock(tm) sensor harness connector terminal No. 3 (Red/White wire). See Figure . Set DVOM MIN MAX mode to the 1 millisecond peak and begin to record. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Stop recording and review recorded MIN value. If voltage is not at or near zero volts, go to next step. If voltage is at or near zero volts, go to step Β 7 .
  5. Check for short to voltage in Red/White wire (12 volt reference circuit) between Passlock(tm) sensor harness connector terminal No. 3 and Passlock(tm) module harness connector terminal A5. See Figure . If Red/White wire is okay, go to next step. If Red/White wire is not okay, repair as necessary. After repair, go to step Β 10 .
  6. Check Passlock(tm) module connector for intermittent or poor terminal contact. If terminal contact is okay, go to next step. If terminal contact is not okay, repair as necessary. After repair, go to step Β 10 .
  7. Check Passlock(tm) sensor connector for intermittent or poor terminal contact. If terminal contact is okay, go to next step. If terminal contact is not okay, repair as necessary. After repair, go to step Β 10 .
  8. Replace Passlock(tm) module. After repair, go to step Β 9 .
  9. Replace Passlock(tm) sensor. After repair, go to next step.
  10. Perform programming theft deterrent system components procedure. See PROGRAMMING THEFT DETERRENT SYSTEM COMPONENTSΒ  .
  11. Using scan tool, clear DTCs. Turn ignition switch to OFF position, then to RUN position. Select Passlock(tm) module DISPLAY DTC function. If DTC B2948 resets, go to step Β 3 . If DTC B2948 does not reset, system is okay at this time.
