Test B: Rear Window Defogger Indicator Always On (Chevy Express & SAVANA)

2001 Chevrolet Chevy Express G2500, Van Cargo Extended, 5.7 R, L31/KL8SECTION Test B: Rear Window Defogger Indicator Always On (Chevy Express & SAVANA)
  1. After reviewing rear window defogger description and operation and performing preliminary inspection, go to next step. See DESCRIPTION & OPERATION  and PRELIMINARY INSPECTION  under TROUBLE SHOOTING.
  2. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Press rear window defogger switch. Observe rear window defogger indicator on Heating Ventilation Air Conditioning (HVAC) control assembly. If indicator remains illuminated, go to next step. If indicator does not remain illuminated, concern may be intermittent. For aid in diagnosing intermittents, see PRELIMINARY INSPECTION  under TROUBLE SHOOTING.
  3. Check for short to voltage in rear window defogger relay coil supply voltage circuit, Orange wire between HVAC harness connector C2 terminal "D" and rear window defogger relay harness connector terminal A1. See Fig 1 and Fig 2 . If no problem exists, go to next step. If problem exists, repair as necessary and go to step  6 .
  4. Check for poor, loose or corroded terminals in HVAC harness connector C2. If no problem exists, go to next step. If problem exists, repair as necessary and go to step  6 .
  5. Replace HVAC control assembly. See HEATING VENTILATION AIR CONDITIONING CONTROL ASSEMBLY  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repairs are made, go to next step.
  6. Perform rear window defogger system check to verify repair. See REAR WINDOW DEFOGGER SYSTEM CHECK  under TROUBLE SHOOTING. If system operates normally, testing is complete. If system does not operate normally, go to step  2 .
