Description & Operation: Introduction
The 3T40 3-speed automatic transaxle consists of a torque converter, final drive gear, differential, 3 multiple clutch disc packs, roller clutch, intermediate band, valve body and oil pump. The 4-element torque converter couples engine crankshaft to planetary gear set through a sprocket and drive link assembly.
Powertrain Control Module (PCM) monitors various inputs to control transaxle Torque Converter Clutch (TCC) operation. PCM receives input information from sensors, switches, solenoids and other components. PCM will control TCC apply and release. PCM also includes on-board self-diagnostics to help identify which components or circuits may need further testing.
