2001 Chevrolet Cavalier LS, 2.4 TSECTION Diagnostic Procedures

- Did you perform the Diagnostic System Check-Engine Controls? If yes, go to next step. If no, see DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK - ENGINE CONTROLS under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
- Start the engine. Allow the engine to reach normal operating temperature. Observe the DTC information parameter with the scan tool. Does the DTC fail this ignition cycle? If yes, go to step 4. If no, go to next step.
- Observe the Freeze Frame/Failure Records data for this DTC. Turn off the ignition for 30 seconds. Start the engine. Operate the vehicle within the Conditions For Running DTC. You may also operate the vehicle within the conditions that you observed from the Freeze Frame/Failure Records. Did the DTC fail this ignition cycle? If yes, go to next step. If no, see DIAGNOSTIC AIDS under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
- Turn ignition on, with engine off. Command TIME MODE B using the scan tool. See PROCEDURES FOR SELECTING CRANK POSITION SENSING DECODE MODE . Start engine. Raise and support vehicle. Wiggle the harnesses and connectors related to CKP sensor "B". Observe the DTC INFO parameter with the scan tool. Does the scan tool indicate that DTC P0386 failed last test? If yes, see DTC P0386: CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR B CIRCUIT PERFORMANCE . If no, go to next step.
- Turn ignition on, with engine off. Command TIME MODE A using the scan tool. See PROCEDURES FOR SELECTING CRANK POSITION SENSING DECODE MODE . Start engine. Raise and support vehicle. Wiggle the harnesses and connectors related to CKP sensor "A". Observe the DTC INFO parameter with the scan tool. Does the scan tool indicate that DTC P0336 failed last test? If yes, see DTC P0336: CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR A CIRCUIT PERFORMANCE . If no, go to next step.
- Lower the vehicle. Clear the DTCs with a scan tool. Turn off the ignition for 30 seconds. Start the engine. Operate the vehicle within the Conditions For Running DTC. You may also operate the vehicle within the conditions that you observed from the Freeze Frame/Failure Records. Did the DTC fail this ignition cycle? If yes, go to next step. If no, see DIAGNOSTIC AIDS .
- Observe the Capture Info with a scan tool. Are there any DTCs that have not been diagnosed? If yes, see DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DEFINITIONS . If no, system is okay.
