Water Pump: Installation
2001 Chevrolet Cavalier LS, 2.4 TSECTION Installation

- Insert the seal into the recessed portion of the water crossover assembly. Index the water pumps locking ears with the tangs in the water crossover. The notched locking ear must be in the 7 o'clock position. See Fig 1.
- Position the Water Pump Remover/Installer (J-38816-A) to the water pump locking ears. See Figure. Fasten the support plate to the water housing crossover, to ensure proper engagement of the tool to the water pump locking ears. Turn the water pump remover/installer counterclockwise. Tighten the water pump to 74 ft. lbs. (100 N.m).
- Remove the support plate from the water housing crossover assembly. Connect the water pump cover to the heater return hose. Install the water pump cover to the water housing crossover. Install the water pump cover bolts. Tighten the water pump cover bolts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONSΒ . Install the radiator outlet hose to the thermostat housing. Install the water pump drive belt. Place the water pump belt cover in position.
- Install the water pump belt cover fasteners. Tighten the water pump belt cover fasteners to specification. Install the oil level indicator tube nut. Tighten the oil level indicator tube nut to specification. Install the secondary AIR injection shut-off valve. Install the air cleaner assembly. Keeping the injector sight shield as level as possible, place the rear of the shield under the mounting bracket. Align and press the injector sight shield onto the mounting studs. Install the mounting nuts onto the mounting studs and tighten nuts. Fill the cooling system. See COOLING SYSTEM BLEEDINGΒ under COOLING SYSTEM.
