2001 Chevrolet Cavalier LS, 2.4 TSECTION Removal Procedure

CAUTION: When carrying an undeployed inflator module:
  • Do not carry the inflator module by the wires or connector.
  • Make sure the air bag opening points away from you.

When storing an undeployed inflator module:
  • Make sure the air bag opening points away from the surface on which the inflator module rests.
  • Provide free space for the air bag to expand in case of an accidental deployment.
  • When storing a steering column, do not rest the column with the air bag opening facing down and the column vertical. Lay the column on its side.

Failure to observe these guidelines may result in personal injury.
  1. Disable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling Zone 5Β .
  2. Remove the I/P trim pad. Refer to Trim Pad Replacement - Instrument Panel (I/P) (Chevrolet) or Trim Pad Replacement - Instrument Panel (I/P) (Pontiac) in Instrument Panel, Gages, and Console.
  3. Remove the air distributor duct. Refer to Air Distributor Duct Replacement (Chevrolet) or Air Distributor Duct Replacement (Pontiac) in Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning.
  4. Remove the connector position assurance (CPA) from the inflatable restraint I/P module yellow 2-way pigtail connector.

  5. Disconnect the yellow 2-way pigtail connector from the inflatable restraint I/P module.

  6. Remove the mounting bolts (2) from the inflatable restraint I/P module (1).
  7. Remove the inflatable restraint module (1) from the I/P
