Test H: Temperature Control Cable Binding

2001 Chevrolet Cavalier LS, 2.4 TSECTION Test H: Temperature Control Cable Binding

  1. Check routing of the cable and look for a kink, wiring interference or instrument panel interference. If a cable condition was found, repair as necessary and recheck operation. If problem was corrected, system is okay. If no cable problem exists, go to next step.
  2. Disconnect cable from air temperature door. Manually cycle air temperature door. Check the door for binding. If the door binds, go to next step. If the door does not bind, go to step Β 4.
  3. Check the door seals for proper installation. Repair door seals as necessary. If problem was corrected, system is okay. If no problem exists, go to step Β 7.
  4. Check the HVAC control for binding. If control binds, go to next step. If control does not bind, go to step Β 8.
  5. Disconnect cable from HVAC control assembly. Retest the control for binding. If control binds, go to next step. If control does not bind, go to step Β 9.
  6. Replace HVAC control assembly. See HVAC CONTROL ASSEMBLYΒ  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If replacement is complete, system is okay.
  7. Check air temperature door shaft for misalignment, a bent shaft or valve, and a warped case. If a door condition was found, repair as necessary. If repair is complete, system is okay.
  8. Reconnect cable to air temperature door. Recheck clearance of the cable around instrument panel components. If repair is complete, system is okay.
  9. Replace cable as necessary. See TEMPERATURE CONTROL CABLEΒ  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If replacement is complete, system is okay.
