Removal Procedure
2001 Chevrolet Cavalier LS, 2.4 TSECTION Removal Procedure

- Disable the SIR system. Refer to DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM
in SIR.CAUTION: Refer to BATTERY DISCONNECT CAUTION in Cautions and Notices.
- Disconnect the negative battery cable.
- Remove the console. Refer to CONSOLE REPLACEMENT .
- Remove the I/P accessory trim plate. Refer to TRIM PLATE REPLACEMENT - INSTRUMENT PANEL (I/P) ACCESSORY .
- Remove the driver knee bolster trim panel. Refer to TRIM PANEL REPLACEMENT - KNEE BOLSTER .
- Remove the ignition switch housing bracket and reposition the ignition switch. Refer to IGNITION SWITCH HOUSING BRACKET REPLACEMENT .
- Release the ignition switch and hazard warning switch wiring harness retainers from the driver knee bolster bracket.IMPORTANT: The following step must be performed to assure proper trim fit during installation.
- Mark the location of the driver knee bolster bracket. Refer to INSTRUMENT PANEL (I/P) DISASSEMBLY PRECAUTIONS .
- Remove the retaining screws from the driver knee bolster bracket.
- Remove the driver knee bolster bracket.
- Remove the left lower closeout panel. Refer to CLOSEOUT/INSULATOR PANEL REPLACEMENT - LEFT .
- Tilt the steering wheel to the lowest position.
- Remove the upper and lower nuts retaining the steering column to the steering column bracket. Carefully rest the steering column on the I/P lower support beam. Refer to STEERING COLUMN REPLACEMENT in Steering Wheel and Column.
- Remove the left windshield side garnish molding. Refer to WINDSHIELD SIDE GARNISH MOLDING REPLACEMENT in Interior Trim.
- Remove the I/P upper trim pad. Refer to TRIM PAD REPLACEMENT - INSTRUMENT PANEL (I/P) UPPER .
- Remove the outlet duct from the left side window defogger.
- Remove the instrument panel cluster. Refer to INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER (IPC) REPLACEMENT .
- Disconnect the Bose® module electrical/audio connector, if equipped.IMPORTANT: The Bose® module is only held in place by retaining bolts. Support the module upon removal.
- If the vehicle is equipped with a Bose® player, remove the bolts mounting the Bose® module to the steering column bracket
- Remove the Bose® module.
