Diagnostic Procedure

2001 Chevrolet Cavalier LS, 2.4 TSECTION Diagnostic Procedure

  1. Connect scan tool to DLC. Turn ignition on. Monitor column switch status. If column switch status is ACTIVE, go to next step. If column switch status is not ACTIVE, go to step Β 6 .
  2. Disconnect steering column aft switch connector. Monitor column switch status. If column switch status is ACTIVE, go to next step. If column switch status is not ACTIVE, go to step Β 4 .
  3. Check for short to ground in Orange wire between telescoping actuator switch and SCM. See WIRING DIAGRAMSΒ  . If problem is found, repair as necessary and go to step Β 8 . If circuit is okay, go to step Β 5 .
  4. Replace telescoping actuator switch. See TELESCOPE ACTUATOR SWITCHΒ  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repairs, go to step Β 8 .
  5. Replace SCM. See REMOVAL & INSTALLATION in POWER SEATS - CORVETTE article. After repairs, go to step Β 8 .
  6. Check telescoping actuator switch aft circuit for intermittent malfunction. If problem is found, repair as necessary and go to step Β 8 . If circuits are okay, go to next step.
  7. Turn ignition off. Reconnect all disconnected components. Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, clear DTCs. Wait 20 seconds. If DTC B2857 sets as history, go to step Β 5 . If DTC B2587 does not set, system is okay at this time.
  8. Turn ignition off. Reconnect all disconnected components. Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, clear DTCs. Operate steering column to verify repair.
