Test C: Wipers Inoperative In All Modes
2001 Chevrolet Cavalier LS, 2.4 TSECTION Test C: Wipers Inoperative In All Modes
- If wiper/washer system description and operation has been reviewed, and preliminary inspection has been performed, go to next step. If system description and operation has not been reviewed, and preliminary inspection has not been performed, review DESCRIPTION and OPERATION . Perform PRELIMINARY INSPECTION under TROUBLE SHOOTING.
- Turn ignition switch to ON position. Turn wiper switch through all switch positions. If wipers do not operate properly, go to next step. If wipers operate properly, perform test procedure while wiggling wiring and harness connectors. This can often cause intermittent malfunction to appear.
- Disconnect wiper motor assembly 6-pin harness connector. Wiper motor assembly is located on left side of firewall. Connect a test light between ground and wiper motor assembly harness connector terminal "B" (Yellow wire). SeeFig 1 . If test light illuminates, go to next step. If test light does not illuminate, go to step 7 .
- Connect a test light between wiper motor assembly harness connector terminals "A" (Black/White wire) and "B" (Yellow wire). If test light illuminates, go to next step. If test light does not illuminate, go to step 8 .
- Connect a test light between ground and wiper motor assembly harness connector terminal "D" (Dark Green wire). Activate washer switch. If test light does not illuminate, go to next step. If test light illuminates, go to step 10 .
- Disconnect wiper switch assembly 6-pin harness connector. Connect a test light between ground and wiper switch assembly harness connector terminal "F" (Yellow wire). See Figure . If test light does not illuminate, go to step 9 . If test light illuminates, go to step 11 .
- Repair open in Yellow wire between wiper motor assembly and instrument panel fuse block. After repairs, go to step 12 .
- Repair open in Black/White wire or Black wire between wiper motor assembly and ground. Ground point is located at left rear of engine compartment, on frame rail. After repairs, go to step 12 .
- Repair open in Yellow wire between wiper switch assembly and instrument panel fuse block. After repairs, go to step 12 .
- Replace wiper motor assembly. See WIPER MOTOR ASSEMBLY under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repairs, go to step 12 .
- Replace wiper switch assembly. See WIPER SWITCH ASSEMBLY under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repairs, go to step 12 .
- Operate system in order to verify repair. If system operates normally, system is okay. If system does not operate normally, go to step 3 .
