2001 Chevrolet Cavalier LS, 2.4 TSECTION Test A: Washer Inoperative
  1. If wiper/washer system description and operation has been reviewed, and preliminary inspection has been performed, go to next step. If system description and operation has not been reviewed, and preliminary inspection has not been performed, review DESCRIPTION  and OPERATION  . Perform PRELIMINARY INSPECTION  under TROUBLE SHOOTING.
  2. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Activate washer switch. If washer does not operate properly, go to next step. If washer operates properly, perform test procedure while wiggling wiring and harness connectors. This can often cause intermittent malfunction to appear.
  3. Disconnect washer pump 2-pin harness connector. Washer pump is located behind left headlight, in washer reservoir. Connect a test light between washer pump harness connector terminals. Activate washer switch. If test light does not illuminate, go to next step. If test light illuminates, go to step  7 .
  4. Check for high resistance or an open in Black wire between washer pump harness connector terminal and ground point. Ground point is located at left rear of engine compartment, on frame rail. If problem is not found, go to next step. If problem is found, repair as necessary. After repairs, go to step  8 .
  5. Check for high resistance, short to ground or an open in Red wire between washer pump harness connector terminal and wiper switch assembly. If problem is not found, go to next step. If problem is found, repair as necessary. After repairs, go to step  8 .
  6. Replace wiper switch assembly. See WIPER SWITCH ASSEMBLY  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repairs, go to step  8 .
  7. Replace washer pump. See WASHER MOTOR  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repairs, go to step  8 .
  8. Operate system in order to verify repair. If system operates normally, system is okay. If system does not operate normally, go to step  3 .
