DTC B3267: TRUNKLID Solenoid Output Circuit Short To Ground Or Open: Testing

2001 Chevrolet Cavalier LS, 2.4 TSECTION Testing
  1. If door system diagnostic system check has been performed, go to next step. If door system diagnostic system check has not been performed, go to DOOR SYSTEM DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
  2. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). DLC is located at lower left side of instrument panel, near steering column. Using scan tool, command trunklid release solenoid on and off. If trunklid release solenoid turns on and off with each command, perform this step while wiggling related wiring and connectors. This can often cause intermittent fault to appear. If trunklid release solenoid does not turn on and off with each command, go to next step.
  3. Disconnect trunklid release solenoid 1-pin harness connector. Connect test light between ground and trunklid release solenoid harness connector terminal (Black/White wire). Using scan tool, command trunklid release solenoid on and off. If test light turns on and off with each command, go to next step. If test light does not turn on and off with each command, go to step  5 .
  4. Connect test light between trunklid release solenoid harness connector terminal (Black/White wire) and trunklid release solenoid casing. Using scan tool, command trunklid release solenoid on and off. If test light turns on and off with each command, go to step  8 . If test light does not turn on and off with each command, go to step  10 .
  5. If test light does not remain illuminated for each command, go to next step. If test light remains illuminated for each command, go to step  7 .
  6. Check for short to ground between in Black/White wire between trunklid release solenoid harness connector terminal and BCM. If short to ground does not exist, go to step  9 . If short to ground exists, repair Black/White wire between trunklid release solenoid and BCM. After repairs, go to step  13 .
  7. Check for short to voltage in Black/White wire between trunklid release solenoid harness connector terminal and BCM. If short to voltage does not exist, go to step  9 . If short to voltage exists, repair Black/White wire between trunklid release solenoid and BCM. After repairs, go to step  13 .
  8. Check for poor connection at trunklid release solenoid harness connector. If problem is not found, go to step  11 . If problem is found, repair as necessary. After repairs, go to step  13 .
  9. Check for poor connections at BCM 16-pin Purple harness connector C1. BCM is located behind left side of instrument panel. If problem is not found, go to step  12 . If problem is found, repair as necessary. After repairs, go to step  13 .
  10. Repair trunklid release solenoid casing. After repairs, go to step  13 .
  11. Replace trunklid release solenoid. After repairs, go to step  13 .
  12. Replace BCM. See BODY CONTROL MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Program BCM. See BODY CONTROL MODULE PROGRAMMING/REGULAR PRODUCTION OPTION CONFIGURATION  under PROGRAMMING. After repairs, go to next step.
  13. Using scan tool, clear DTCs. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Wait 30 seconds. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Retrieve DTCs. If DTC B3267 is retrieved, go to step  2 . If DTC B3267 is not retrieved, system is okay at this time.

When to See a Mechanic

Stop DIY work and contact a certified mechanic immediately if any of the following apply:

  • You smell fuel, burning insulation, or see smoke.
  • Brakes feel soft, pull hard to one side, or make grinding noises.
  • The engine overheats, stalls repeatedly, or misfires under load.
  • You are missing required tools, torque specs, or safe lifting equipment.
  • You are not confident in the next step or safety outcome.
