2000 Chevrolet Cavalier Base, 4D Sedan, 2.4 TSECTION Inspection (Steering Shaft)

Inspect steering shaft for sheared injection plastic. See Figure. If injection plastic is sheared, replace steering shaft. Check steering shaft runout by installing a dial indicator at lower end of steering shaft, then rotating steering wheel. If runout exceeds .063" (1.59 mm), replace steering shaft.
