Diagnostic Procedures
2000 Chevrolet Cavalier Base, 2D Coupe, Automatic, 4T40E/MN4SECTION Diagnostic Procedures
- Perform On-Board Diagnostic (OBD) system check. See ON-BOARD DIAGNOSTIC (OBD) SYSTEM CHECKΒ . After performing OBD system check, go to next step.
- Using scan tool, check if DTC U1064 is also set. If DTC U1064 is set, diagnose DTC. If DTC U1064 is not set, go to next step.
- Check if DTC P1630 and P1632 are set together. If they are set together, diagnose DTC P1630 first. See DTC P1630: THEFT DETERRENT SYSTEM LEARN MODE ACTIVEΒ . If DTC P1630 and P1632 are not set together, go to next step.
- Check if DTC P1631 and P1632 are set together. If they are set together, diagnose DTC P1631 first. See DTC P1631: THEFT DETERRENT FUEL ENABLE SIGNAL NOT CORRECTΒ . If DTC P1631 and P1632 are not set together, go to next step.
- Check for any Body Control Module (BCM) related DTCs. If BCM DTCs are set, affected diagnose BCM DTC. See appropriate BODY CONTROL MODULES (BCM) article in ACCESSORIES & EQUIPMENT. If no BCM related BCM is set, go to next step.
- Check for any PassLock(R) Theft Deterrent system related DTCs. If theft deterrent DTCs are set, perform ON-BOARD DIAGNOSTIC (OBD) SYSTEM CHECKΒ . If no theft deterrent DTCs are set, go to step Β 8 .
- Perform Password Learn Procedure. See appropriate ANTI-THEFT SYSTEMS article in ACCESSORIES & EQUIPMENT. Attempt to start engine. If engine starts and continues to run, go to step Β 6 . If engine does not start or starts and then stalls, go to next step.
- Perform Body Control Module (BCM) system check. See appropriate BODY CONTROL MODULES (BCM) article in ACCESSORIES & EQUIPMENT. If a problem is found, repair as necessary. After repairs, go to step Β 10 . If no problem is found, go to next step.
- Replace PCM. Program replacement PCM using required equipment. After replacing PCM, go to next step.
- Using scan tool, clear DTCs. Warm engine to normal operating temperature. Operate vehicle within the conditions for setting this DTC. If scan tool indicates that this DTC ran and passed, go to next step. If scan tool does not indicate that this DTC ran and passed, repeat step Β 2 .
- Check if additional DTC are set. Diagnose affected DTCs. If no other DTCs are set, system is okay.
