Safety Warning
DIY auto repair can cause serious injury, fire, or vehicle damage. These guides are for informational purposes only. Always follow OEM torque specs, wear PPE, and consult a certified mechanic if you are unsure. You are solely responsible for your safety.
Piston Rings
Measure piston ring end gap and side clearance. If end gap and side clearance are not within specification, replace piston rings and/or piston as necessary. See PISTONS, PINS & RINGSΒ table under ENGINE SPECIFICATIONS. Install piston rings with piston ring installer in order to not damage rings. Install first ring with either side up. Install second ring with identification mark on ring land facing top of piston. Properly position ring end gaps around circumference of piston. See Figure.
