Testing Procedure
1999 Chevrolet Cutaway 7.4 JSECTION Testing Procedure
- If the Passlock™ System Check was performed, go to the next step. If not, go to DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM OPERATION CHECK - ANTI-THEFT (DOMESTIC) under TROUBLE SHOOTING.
- Ensure that the ignition switch is still in the RUN position. Observe the instrument cluster. This step determines if there is power available to the instrument cluster. If the Brake Warning telltale or the Check Gauges telltale is on, go to the next step. If the Brake Warning telltale or the Check Gauges telltale are not on, go to step 11.
- Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position. Disconnect the instrument cluster connector. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Test the SECURITY indicator bulb. If the bulb is open, go to the next step. If the bulb was not open, go to step 5.
- Replace the SECURITY indicator bulb. After repair, recheck system. See DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM OPERATION CHECK - ANTI-THEFT (DOMESTIC) under TROUBLE SHOOTING.
- Turn the ignition switch to the LOCK position. Using a DMM, measure the resistance (0-5 ohms) from connector terminal B2 of the Passlock™ module to terminal A4 of the instrument cluster. See Figure and Figure . This step tests for continuity in circuit 749. If the resistance is within the specified value, go to step 7. If the resistance is not within the specified value, go to the next step.
- Repair the open in circuit 749. If the repair is complete, go to DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM OPERATION CHECK - ANTI-THEFT (DOMESTIC) under TROUBLE SHOOTING.
- Disconnect the Passlock™ module connector. See ANTI-THEFT MODULE under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position. Using a DMM, measure the resistance (9-16 V) from connector terminal B2 of the Passlock™ module to ground. This step tests for a short to battery in circuit 749. If the voltage is within the specified value (9-16 V), go to the next step. If the voltage is not within the specified value, go to step 9.
- Repair the short to ignition in circuit 749. If the repair is complete, go to step 19.
- Using a DMM, measure the resistance (0-5 ohms) from connector terminal B1 of the Passlock™ module to ground. This step tests for an open in circuit 651. If the resistance is within the specified value, go to step 17. If the resistance is not within the specified value (0-5 ohms), go to the next step.
- Repair the open in circuit 451 between connector terminal B1 of the Passlock™ module and G103. If the repair is complete, go to DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM OPERATION CHECK - ANTI-THEFT (DOMESTIC) under TROUBLE SHOOTING.
- Test the GAUGES fuse. If the GAUGES fuse is open, go to the next step. If the GAUGES fuse is not open, go to step 15.
- Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position. Replace the GAUGES fuse. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position. This step verifies if the GAUGES fuse randomly opened. If the GAUGES fuse is open, go to the next step. If the GAUGES fuse is not open, go to DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM OPERATION CHECK - ANTI-THEFT (DOMESTIC) under TROUBLE SHOOTING.
- Turn the ignition switch to the LOCK position. Disconnect the Passlock™ module. See ANTI-THEFT MODULE under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Replace the GAUGES fuse. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position. This step determines if there is a short to ground in the Passlock™ module. If the GAUGES fuse is open, go to the next step. If the GAUGES fuse is not open, go to step 19.
- Repair the short to ground in circuit 39. Replace the GAUGES fuse. If the repair is complete, go to DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM OPERATION CHECK - ANTI-THEFT (DOMESTIC) under TROUBLE SHOOTING.
- Turn the ignition switch to the LOCK position. Disconnect the instrument panel cluster connector. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position. Using a DMM, measure the voltage (9-16 V) from connector terminal B17 of the instrument cluster to ground. This step tests for voltage at the battery side of the SECURITY indicator. If the voltage is within the specified value (9-16 V), go to step 18. If the voltage is not within the specified value, go to the next step.
- Repair the open in circuit 39. If the repair is complete, go to DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM OPERATION CHECK - ANTI-THEFT (DOMESTIC) under TROUBLE SHOOTING.
- Reinstall the SECURITY indicator bulb. Reconnect the instrument cluster connector. Connect a fused jumper between terminal B2 of the Passlock™ module and ground. Ensure that the ignition switch is still in the ON position. If the SECURITY telltale turns on, go to step 19. If the SECURITY telltale does not turn on, go to the next step.
- Replace the instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If the repair is complete, go to DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM OPERATION CHECK - ANTI-THEFT (DOMESTIC) under TROUBLE SHOOTING.
- Replace the Passlock™ module. See ANTI-THEFT MODULE under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If the repair is complete, go to the next step.
- Reconnect all previously disconnected connectors and components. Ensure that the ignition switch is in the ON position. Replace any open fuse. Connect the scan tool. Clear Passlock™ DTCs, if any. Perform one of the following Passlock™ reprogramming procedures:
- Seed and Key (10 minutes). See PASSLOCK™ SEED & KEY under PROGRAMMING.
- Auto Learn (30 minutes). See PASSLOCK™ AUTO LEARN under PROGRAMMING.
