Testing Procedure
1999 Chevrolet Cutaway 7.4 JSECTION Testing Procedure
- If the VTD Diagnostic System Check was performed, go to the next step. If not, go to DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM OPERATION CHECK - ANTI-THEFT (DOMESTIC) under TROUBLE SHOOTING.
- Install scan tool to DLC. Momentarily rotate the ignition switch to CRANK position. Do not start vehicle. Release ignition switch to ON position. With the scan tool, observe the Passlock™ Data Voltage in the Passlock Module Data list. If the scan tool indicates voltage is within the range of 0.4-4.9 volts, problem is intermittent. If the voltage is not within the range, go to next step.
- Turn off ignition. Disconnect the Passlock™ sensor. Turn on ignition, with engine off. Using scan tool, observe the Passlock™ Data Voltage in the Passlock Module Data list. If the scan tool indicates voltage is greater than 4.9 volts, go to next step. If voltage is not greater than 4.9 volts, go to step 9.
- Turn off ignition. Connect a 3 amp fused jumper wire between the signal circuit of the Passlock™ sensor and ground circuit of the Passlock™ sensor.Turn on ignition with engine off. Using scan tool, observe the Passlock™ Data Voltage in the Passlock Module Data list. Does scan tool indicate that Passlock™ data voltage is less than 0.4 volts? If yes, go to next step. If no, go to step 7.
- Disconnect fused jumper wire. Measure voltage between B+ reference circuit of the Passlock™ sensor and ground circuit of the Passlock™ sensor.Is voltage less than 12 volt? If yes, go to next step. If no, go to step 11.
- Test the B+ reference circuit of the Passlock™ sensor for a high resistance or an open. Was the condition found and corrected? If yes, go to step 14. If no. go to step 9.
- Test the signal circuit of the Passlock™ sensor for a short to voltage. Was a short to voltage found and corrected. If yes, go to step 14. If no, go to next step.
- Test the ground circuit of the Passlock™ sensor for a high resistance or an open. Was this condition found and repaired? If yes, go to step 14. If no, go to step next step.
- Inspect for poor connections at Passlock™ module. Was this condition found and repaired? If yes, go to step 14. If no, go to step next step.
- Inspect for poor connections at Passlock™ sensor. Was this condition found and repaired? If yes, go to step 14. If no, go to step next step.
- Replace Passlock™ module. See ANTI-THEFT MODULE under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.After replacement, go to step 13.
- Replace Passlock™ sensor in the electronic column lock module assembly. See STEERING COLUMNS -- TRUCKS -- EXCEPT TRACKER article in STEERING. After repair, go to next step.
- Perform PASSLOCK™ AUTO LEARN under ADJUSTMENTS. After repair, go to next step.
- Use the scan tool in order to clear the DTCs. Turn OFF the ignition. Momentarily rotate the ignition switch to CRANK. Do not start the vehicle. Release the ignition switch to ON. Select the Passlock™ module display DTCs function on the scan tool. Does the DTC reset? If yes, go to step 3. If no, go to next step.
- Attempt to start vehicle. If engine starts and runs, system is okay. If vehicle does not start and run, go to step 3.
