Testing Procedure

1999 Chevrolet Cutaway 7.4 JSECTION Testing Procedure
  1. If the VTD Diagnostic System Check was performed, go to the next step. If not, go to DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM OPERATION CHECK - ANTI-THEFT (DOMESTIC)  under TROUBLE SHOOTING.
  2. Turn the ignition switch to OFF. Disconnect the Passlock™ module connector. See ANTI-THEFT MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Use a Digital Multimeter (DMM) in order to measure the voltage (9-16 volts) from the Passlock™ module connector terminal A5 to ground. See Figure. This step isolates the short to battery between the Passlock™ module and the harness. If the voltage is within the specified range, go to the next step. If the voltage is not within the specified range, go to step  6.
  3. Disconnect the C200 at the base of the steering column. Use a DMM in order to measure the voltage (9-16 volts) from the Passlock™ module connector terminal A5 to ground. This step isolates the short to battery between the Passlock™ sensor and the harness. If the voltage is within the specified range, go to the next step. If the voltage is not within the specified range, go to step  5.
  4. Repair the short to battery in CKT 812. If the repair is complete, go to DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM OPERATION CHECK - ANTI-THEFT (DOMESTIC)  under TROUBLE SHOOTING.
  5. Replace the Passlock™ sensor in the electronic column lock module assembly. To disassemble and assemble the lock module assembly on models with tilt wheels and standard wheels, see REMOVAL & INSTALLATION in STEERING COLUMNS - TRUCKS - EXCEPT TRACKER article. If the repairs are complete, go to the next step.
  6. Replace the Passlock™ module. See ANTI-THEFT MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If the repairs are complete, go to the next step.
  7. Reconnect all of the previously disconnected connectors and the components. Turn the ignition switch ON. Connect the scan tool. Clear the DTCs. Perform one of the following Passlock™ reprogramming procedures: After repair, recheck system. See DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM OPERATION CHECK - ANTI-THEFT (DOMESTIC)  under TROUBLE SHOOTING.
