Installation Procedure

1998 Chevrolet Suburban K2500, 7.4 J, Part TimeSECTION Installation Procedure

  1. Align the instrument panel to the vehicle.
  2. Reposition the I/P wiring harness.
  3. NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Cautions and Notices.
  4. Install the I/P mounting bolts at the cluster pocket.

    Tighten:  Tighten the mounting bolts to 5.0 N.m (44 lb in).

  6. Install the I/P mounting bolts at the windshield.

    Tighten:  Tighten the mounting bolts to 5.0 N.m (44 lb in).

  8. Install the I/P mounting bolts to the compartment.

    Tighten:  Tighten the mounting bolts to 2.0 N.m (18 lb in).

  9. Install the I/P compartment lamp switch. Refer to Instrument Panel (I/P) Compartment Lamp Switch Replacement .
  10. Install the I/P compartment. Refer to Compartment Replacement - Instrument Panel (I/P) .
  11. Install the I/P cluster. Refer to Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) Replacement .
  12. Install the heater A/C control. Refer to HVAC Control Module Replacement (Buick) or HVAC Control Module Replacement (Pontiac) in HVAC Systems - Manual.
  13. Install the radio. Refer to Radio Replacement in Entertainment.
  14. Install the I/P cluster trim plate bezel. Refer to Trim Plate Bezel Replacement - Instrument Panel (I/P) Cluster (Aztek)  or Trim Plate Bezel Replacement - Instrument Panel (I/P) Cluster (Rendezvous) .
  15. Install the I/P accessory trim plate. Refer to Trim Plate Replacement - Instrument Panel (I/P) Accessory (Aztek) .
  16. Install the hood release handle. Refer to Hood Latch Release Handle Replacement in Body Front End.

  18. Raise the steering column.
  19. Install the nuts to the upper steering column.

    Tighten:  Tighten the nuts to 25 N.m (18 lb ft).

  20. Install the bolts to the lower steering column.

    Tighten:  Tighten the bolts to 25 N.m (18 lb ft).

  21. Install the knee bolster panel. Refer to Knee Bolster Replacement .
  22. Install the front floor console. Refer to Console Replacement - Front Floor (Aztek)  or Console Replacement - Front Floor (Rendezvous) .
  23. Install the I/P upper trim panel. Refer to Trim Pad Replacement - Instrument Panel (I/P) Upper (Aztek)  or Trim Pad Replacement - Instrument Panel (I/P) Upper (Rendezvous) .
  24. Install the windshield side upper garnish moldings. Refer to Garnish Molding Replacement - Windshield Pillar in Interior Trim.
  25. Install the I/P insulators. Refer to Closeout/Insulator Panel Replacement - Right  and to Closeout/Insulator Panel Replacement - Left .
  26. Install the data link connector. Refer to Data Link Connector Replacement in Data Link Communications.
  27. Install the I/P access hole covers. Refer to Instrument Panel (I/P) Outer Trim Cover Replacement .
  28. Enable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling Zone 3 or to SIR Disabling and Enabling Zone 5 in SIR.
  29. Connect the battery negative cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnect/Connect Procedure (LA1) or Battery Negative Cable Disconnect/Connect Procedure (LY7) in Engine Electrical.
