- Always install new injector "O" rings when servicing the fuel injectors. Lubricate the new injector "O" rings with clean engine oil. Install the "O" rings on the fuel injector.
- Install the fuel injector clip on the fuel injector. The fuel injector will click when the injector is installed correctly.
- Install the fuel injector in the fuel rail with the connector facing upward.
- With the fuel injectors positioned downward, lower the fuel injectors into the cylinder head ports.
- Align the injectors by rotating the fuel rail forward. Carefully push the fuel injectors into the cylinder head ports.
- Install the fuel rail attaching bolts and tighten to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
- Connect the fuel injector harness connectors. Pull back to insure the connectors are locked in place.
- Install the fuel supply and return pipes. Connect the vacuum pipe to the fuel pressure regulator.
- Install air cleaner outlet resonator, air cleaner intake duct and vent hose.
- Reconnect negative battery cable. Tighten to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
- Inspect for leaks by using the following procedure.
- Turn ignition switch to RUN position, with the engine OFF for 2 seconds.
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position for 10 seconds.
- Turn ignition switch to RUN position, with the engine OFF.
- Check for fuel leaks.
CAUTION:
Use care when servicing the fuel system components, especially the fuel injector harness connectors, the fuel injector tips, and the injector "O" rings. Plug the inlet and the outlet ports of the fuel rail to prevent contamination. Do NOT use compressed air to clean the fuel rail assembly as this may damage the fuel rail components. Do NOT immerse the fuel rail assembly in a solvent bath to prevent damage to the fuel rail assembly.
- Install the fuel rail assembly into the intake manifold. Tilt the rail assembly to install the injectors.
- Install the fuel rail attaching bolts. Tighten the fuel rail attaching bolts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
- Connect the coolant temperature sensor harness connector.
- Install the injector electrical harness to the fuel rail.
- Connect the injector harness connectors.
- Push the slide locks into the locked position.
- Connect the main injector harness electrical connector.
- Install the new "O" rings on the fuel feed pipe and fuel return pipe.
- Connect the fuel feed pipe to the fuel rail. Tighten the fuel feed pipe fitting to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
- Connect the fuel return pipe to the fuel pressure regulator. Tighten the fuel return pipe fitting to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
- Install the engine compartment fuel pipe retainer bolt. Tighten the fuel pipe retainer bolt to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
- Install the upper intake manifold gaskets on the manifold. See Figure .
- Apply Thread Lock (GM PN 12345382), or equivalent, to the threads of the bolts. Install the upper intake manifold bolts. See Figure . Tighten the bolts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
- Install the MAP sensor and bolts. See Figure .
- Connect the MAP sensor vacuum line. Connect the MAP sensor harness connector.
- Connect the vacuum modulator.
- Install the vacuum hose to the fuel pressure regulator and the crankcase ventilation valve. See Figure .
- Connect the TP sensor.
- Connect the IAC valve.
- Connect the injector harness.
- Connect the coolant hoses from the throttle body.
- Install the EVAP canister purge solenoid. See Figure .
- Install the electronic ignition coil and module assembly. See Figure .
- Install the EGR pipe, if equipped.
- Install the throttle cables and bracket to the throttle body.
- Install the brake vacuum pipe.
- Fill and bleed the cooling system. See COOLING SYSTEM BLEEDING under COOLING SYSTEM.
- Connect the quick-connect fittings in the engine compartment.
- Connect the negative battery cable.
- Inspect for fuel leaks using the following procedures:
- Turn ignition switch to RUN position, with the engine OFF for 2 seconds.
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position for 10 seconds.
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position, with the engine OFF.
- Check for fuel leaks.
