Default Temperatures
If engine run time is less than one minute, PCM substitutes a transmission fluid temperature value equal to Intake Air Temperature (IAT) value, plus 5 degrees. If Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) is less than 185°F (85°C), PCM substitutes a transmission fluid temperature value equal to IAT value, plus 10 degrees.
- If ECT is 185-230°F (85-110°C), PCM substitutes a transmission fluid temperature value equal to ECT value, plus 10 degrees.
- If ECT is more than 230°F (110°C), PCM substitutes a transmission fluid temperature value of 284°F (140°C) and transmission shift pattern is in hot mode.
- If ECT and TFT DTCs are both set, PCM substitutes a transmission fluid temperature value of 284°F (140°C).

When to See a Mechanic
Stop DIY work and contact a certified mechanic immediately if any of the following apply:
- • You smell fuel, burning insulation, or see smoke.
- • Brakes feel soft, pull hard to one side, or make grinding noises.
- • The engine overheats, stalls repeatedly, or misfires under load.
- • You are missing required tools, torque specs, or safe lifting equipment.
- • You are not confident in the next step or safety outcome.
