Spring Shackle: Installation

1996 Chevrolet Pickup C2500, 2D Pickup, 6.5 F, AutomaticSECTION Installation
NOTE: Numbers in parenthesis refer to components or procedures identified in illustrations.
  1. Install the shackle (18) to the vehicle. See Figure.
  2. Install the shackle to spring bolt (14), washers (13) and nut (12); Do NOT tighten yet. See Figure.
  3. Install the shackle to rear bracket bolt (17), nut (15) and washers (16); Do NOT tighten yet. See Figure.
  4. Adjust the spring height to obtain a measurement of 182 mm (7 11/64 in.) between the top of the surface and the axle jounce pad and the bottom surface of the frame jounce bracket. See Figure.
  5. Tighten front (20) and rear (12) spring nuts and shackle nut (15). See Figure and TORQUE SPECIFICATIONSΒ . Lower the vehicle.
