Drive-End Bearing

- Scribe end frames to fascilitate reassembly. Remove through-bolts and separate end frames. Remove pulley nut while holding rotor with hex wrench inserted into shaft end. See Fig 1. Remove washer, pulley, fan, collar and outside collar from shaft. Push rotor from drive end frame. Remove retainer plate and inside collar. Press bearing from drive end frame. On some generators, drive end bearing cannot be replaced.
- To install NEW bearing, press against outer race until bearing seats. Bearing is sealed; no added lubricant is required. Install inside collar and retainer plate. Press rotor into drive end frame. Install outside collar, fan, fan collar. pulley and washer onto shaft. Install pulley nut and tighten to 75 ft. lbs. (102 N.m).
- To complete assembly, reverse disassembly procedure. Retain brushes with brush retaining pin during reassembly. See Figure. Remove retaining pin after tightening through-bolts.
