Safety Warning
DIY auto repair can cause serious injury, fire, or vehicle damage. These guides are for informational purposes only. Always follow OEM torque specs, wear PPE, and consult a certified mechanic if you are unsure. You are solely responsible for your safety.
Trunk/Hatchback Release
Trunk lid and hatchback release system consists of a release switch, release solenoid, release relay, valet switch (if equipped), connectors and necessary wiring. Wiring harness is routed from switch to trunk/hatchback lid and solenoid. When switch is pressed, release solenoid coil is energized. Release is pulled back, unlatching trunk/hatchback lid lock, and lid is opened.
On models with Remote Keyless Entry (RKE), the same action takes place except release solenoid is energized by RKE transmitter. Release solenoid is part of trunk lid on sedan models, and at latch assembly in hatchback models. Some models with automatic transmission also use a transmission position switch that allows trunk/hatchback to only be opened with transmission in Park or Neutral. On some manual transmission models, parking brake must be applied before release will operate.
