Wiper Motor Inoperative

1996 Chevrolet Chevy Van G30, Van Cargo Extended, 6.5 YSECTION Wiper Motor Inoperative
NOTE: Ensure WIPER fuse is okay before testing system.
  1. Disconnect wiper switch connector located under instrument panel, to left of steering column. Connect test light between ground and White wire of switch harness. Turn ignition on. If test light comes on, go to next step. If test light does not come on, repair open in White wire between switch connector and 25-amp WIPER fuse. See Figure .
  2. Reconnect wiper switch connector. Place wiper switch in LO position and backprobe Gray wire of switch harness connector with a test light to ground. Place wiper switch in HI position and backprobe Purple wire of switch harness connector. If test light comes on at both wires, go to next step. If test light does not come on at one or both wires, replace wiper switch.
  3. Disconnect wiper motor/module connector. Connect test light between ground and White wire. Place wiper switch in LO position, connect test light between ground and Gray wire. Place wiper switch in HI position, connect test light between ground and Purple wire.
  4. If test light comes on at all 3 wires, go to next step. If test light does not come on at any one, or all 3 wires, locate and repair open in White, Purple and/or Gray wires between wiper switch connector and motor/module harness connector.
  5. Connect test light between battery positive and Black wire of wiper motor/module connector. If test light comes on, replace wiper motor. If test light does not come on, repair open in Black wire between wiper motor/module connector and ground.
