Code 16 - Abs Enable Relay Coil Circuit Open: Notes

1996 Chevrolet Camaro RS, 2D Convertible, StandardSECTION Notes

Ignition voltage is supplied through ABS enable relay. EBCM/EBTCM energizes pull-in coil by completing ground circuit at EBCM/EBTCM ABS relay control terminal. Magnetic field created will close ABS enable relay contacts to supply battery voltage to EBCM/EBTCM, providing power to motors and solenoids.

Code 16 can only set after Code 14 has been set. This test detects an open in ABS enable relay coil circuit. This malfunction will not allow ABS enable relay to energize thus preventing voltage/current to motors and solenoids. If malfunction is present and ignition is turned off before 3 MPH is reached, Code 14 will set alone. Code will be stored, ABS is disabled and ABS warning light illuminated.

NOTE: Test numbers refer to numbers on diagnostic chart. Use only 10-megohm (minimum) DVOM for all voltage and resistance tests. For identification of circuits and terminals referenced in charts and text, see WIRING DIAGRAMSΒ .
