Bleeding Brake System: Notes

1996 Chevrolet Camaro RS, 2D Convertible, StandardSECTION Notes
NOTE: Use only DOT 3 brake fluid from a sealed container.

Before servicing system, place front and rear displacement cylinder pistons in upper position. To position pistons, connect Tech 1 scan tool, and select F5 (Motor Rehome). Motor rehome function cannot be performed if diagnostic trouble codes are present. Repair vehicle and clear codes before performing motor rehome function.

If Tech 1 scan tool is not available, ensure ABS warning light is not illuminated and no diagnostic trouble codes are present. DO NOT  depress brake pedal unless instructed to do so. Start engine and allow to run for at least 10 seconds. Observe ABS warning light. If ABS warning light remains illuminated after 10 seconds, diagnose ABS diagnostic trouble codes using Tech 1 scan tool. If ABS warning light goes out, repeat test procedure to ensure proper operation of warning light. Brake system is now ready to be bled.
