DTC 48 Right Front Motor Free Spins: Notes

This test detects stripped a nut or gear assembly during initialization. During homing sequence, piston should reach top of bore resulting in ABS motor stalling. If this does not occur, motor must be spinning with little or no resistance, indicating a nut/screw or gear malfunction.

DTC 48 can set only during initialization if feedback current is less than command current for a specified period of time. DTC will be stored, ABS will be disabled and ABS warning light will turn on.

NOTE: Test numbers refer to numbers on diagnostic chart.
  1. Checks if DTC 61 is also set.
  2. Verifies motor was applied by monitoring feedback current.
  3. Verifies motor can release.
  4. Verifies motor can be applied by monitoring pedal movement.
  5. Checks for open in motor high circuit.
  6. Checks for open in motor low circuit.
  7. Checks internal short in motor windings.
  8. Checks for stripped gear (3 small gears) on motor pack.
  9. Checks for stripped gear (3 large gears) on hydraulic modulator.
  10. Checks if motor pack has an internal malfunction.
  11. Verifies hydraulic modulator function.
  12. Ensures malfunction was not due to poor terminal contact.
