Many models are equipped with a system for preheating the air entering the throttle body during cold engine operation.

This system maintains incoming air temperature to a point where fuel injection system can maintain lean air/fuel ratios to reduce hydrocarbon (HC) and carbon monoxide (CO) emissions. TAC systems are either vacuum motor controlled or wax pellet controlled.
