Fuel Pressure Guage Test Point For Chart A-7:
WARNING: To reduce the risk of fire and personal injury:
a. It is necessary to relieve fuel system pressure before connecting a fuel pressure gauge.
b. A small amount of fuel may be released when servicing fuel lines or connections. In order to reduce the chance of personal injury, cover fuel line fittings with a shop towel before disconnecting to catch any fuel that may leak out. Place the towel in an approved container when disconnect is complete.
c. Do not pinch or restrict nylon fuel lines, as this may create fuel leaks. If nylon fuel lines become kinked, they must be replaced.
PROCEDURE
1. Disconnect the negative battery terminal.
2. Loosen fuel filler cap to relieve fuel tank pressure. (Do not tighten at this time.)
3. Locate engine compartment fuel feed quick-connect fitting.
4. Grasp both ends of the fitting, twist female end 1/4 turn in each direction to loosen any dirt in fitting.
5. Using compressed air, blow dirt out of quick-connect fittings.
WARNING: Safety glasses must be worn when using compressed air, as flying dirt particles may cause eye injuries.
6. Choose the correct tool from the separator tool set J 37088 (or equivalent) for size of fitting. Insert tool into female end of connector, then push inward to release male connector.
7. Connect gauge quick-connect adapters J29658 (or equivalent) to fuel pressure gauge J 29658-B (or equivalent).
WARNING: To reduce the risk of fire and personal injury: Before connecting fuel line quick-connect fittings, always apply a few drops of engine oil to the male tube ends. This will ensure proper reconnection and prevent a possible fuel leak. (During normal operation, the o-rings inside the female connector will swell and may prevent proper reconnection if not lubricated.
8. Lubricate the male tube ends of the fuel and the gauge adapter with engine oil.
9. Connect fuel pressure gauge.
^ Push connectors together to cause the retaining tabs/fingers to snap into place.
^ Once installed, pull on both ends of each connection to make sure that it is secure.
10. Reconnect the negative battery terminal.
11. Check fuel pressure.
12. Disconnect negative battery terminal.
13. Disconnect fuel pressure gauge.
14. Lubricate the male end of the fuel line, and reconnect quick-connect fitting.
^ Push connector together to cause the retaining tabs/fingers to snap into place.
^ Once installed, pull on both ends of connection to make sure that it is secured.
15. Tighten fuel filter cap.
16. Connect negative battery terminal.
17. Cycle ignition ON and OFF twice, waiting ten seconds between cycles, then check for fuel leaks.
