Rear Axle Assembly: Removal
1990 Chevrolet Hi-Cube 7.4 N, 400/M40SECTION Removal
- Raise and support vehicle. Place jack stands under frame side rails for support. Drain lubricant from axle. Remove drive shaft. Remove tire and wheel assembly.
- Remove hub and drum assembly. Disconnect parking brake cable from lever and at brake flange plates. Remove hydraulic brake lines. Detach height-sensing/brake proportioning valve linkage. Remove shock absorbers.
- Remove stabilizer bar (if equipped). Disconnect hose from axle vent fitting (if equipped). Support rear axle assembly with floor jack and remove leaf spring "U" bolts. Carefully lower rear axle assembly and remove from vehicle.
