Governor/Speedometer Gear Or Governor/Speed Sensor Assembly: Inspection

1988 Chevrolet Cavalier RS, 4D Sedan, StandardSECTION Inspection
  1. Check governor assembly for wear or damage. Ensure governor weights operate freely and independently of each other. Check for damaged, mispositioned or tilted springs.
  2. Install governor cover with new "O" ring. Ensure governor shaft is piloted in cover before tightening retaining bolts. Install speedometer drive gear/speed sensor housing. See Fig 1 or Fig 2 .
