Component Disassembly & Reassembly: Countershaft: Reassembly

1987 Chevrolet Suburban R20, 5.7 K, StandardSECTION Reassembly
  1. Position 3rd countergear on shaft, with front surface toward front of shaft. Using arbor press, press gear on shaft with a minimum force of 1500 lbs. (680 kg). If gear can be installed with force of less than 1500 lbs. (680 kg), replace gear.
  2. Install spacer, and press clutch countergear on countershaft using Bushing Driver (J-22873). See Fig 1. Install thrust washer. Install NEW countergear retaining ring using Inner Sleeve (J-22830) and Bushing Driver (J-22873). See Fig 2. DO NOTΒ  over-stress retaining ring.
