- Wash all parts thoroughly in solvent. Apply compressed air to each oil feed port and channel in each side of case. Inspect all gear teeth for signs of excessive wear, distortion or damage. Remove minor nicks or scratches with an oil stone.
- Inspect all thrust washers for excessive wear, distortion or damage. Inspect case halves for cracks, porosity, damaged mating surfaces, stripped bolt threads or distortion. Inspect all needle, roller and thrust bearings for rough operation, excessive wear or damage. DO NOTΒ spin bearings when drying with compressed air.
- Inspect synchronizers for worn or broken parts. When reassembling synchronizer assemblies, each insert spring should support all 3 keys and each opening portion of insert spring should face opposite direction from other insert spring.
NOTE:
Keep all synchronizer parts together with their original sleeve and hub.
