THM 125-C (Transaxles): Removal: Notes

1986 Chevrolet Cavalier RS, 2D Hatchback, 2.8 W, AutomaticSECTION Notes
  1. Disconnect negative battery cable. Remove air cleaner and T.V. cables from carburetor and transaxle. Remove airflow meter and intake duct (if equipped). Remove shift linkage and wiring routing clips and straps.
  2. Remove dipstick tube and install Engine Holding Fixture (J-28467). On Cavalier, Cimarron, Firenza, Skyhawk, & Sunbird, insert a 1/4" x 2" bolt in hole at front right motor mount to maintain driveline alignment. Remove nut securing wiring harness to transaxle.
  3. Remove wiring connectors from transaxle. Disconnect shifter linkage. Remove top 2 transaxle to engine bolts and left upper transaxle bracket and mount. Remove rubber hose from transaxle to vent pipe. Remove remaining upper engine to transaxle bolts.
  4. Raise vehicle on a hoist. Remove front wheels. Drain transaxle. Remove shift linkage bracket from transaxle. Remove lower ball joints from control arms. Remove and support axles. Remove transaxle mounting strut. Remove left stabilizer bar link pin bolt and left stabilizer bar frame bushing clamp nuts.
  5. Remove left frame support assembly. Remove header pipe at exhaust manifold (if equipped with 1.8L). Remove speedometer cable and starter motor. Remove torque converter cover. Mark position of flexplate and torque converter. Remove flexplate bolts. Remove oil cooling lines. Remove transaxle to engine support bracket. Position jack under transaxle. Remove remaining engine to transaxle bolts. Slide transaxle from engine and lower from vehicle.
